Nepathya - Karnali Ka Chhaila

About This Video

Karnali Ka Chhaila (कर्नालीका छाइला) is a folk-based song rooted in the Tappa melody tradition of the Karnali region. Originally collected by Laxmikanta Upadhya, the song was later developed, arranged, and performed by Nepathya.
To capture the song's true spirit, frontman Amrit Gurung made several trips to Karnali. Amrit had even sung an early version of the song to writer Narayan Wagle in the 2003 documentary Bhedako Oon Jasto. This long-term engagement reflects how the song has been a work in progress since 2003, culminating in its recording in 2025.
For the music video, Nepathya collaborated with the Sa Karnali production team, including director Bhusan Dahal. The video was filmed on an extensive journey through the Karnali region by road and foot, covering the routes Surkhet, Dailekh, Kalikot, Jumla, Sinja, and Rara Lake. The video covers the journey by following Nepathya front man Amrit Gurung as a traveler.
