Nepathya releases new track ‘Koshi Ko Pani Yo Zindagani’
July 22nd 2016, Kathmandu
Nepathya is working on the post production of their 10th Album, which includes folk tunes collected from across Nepal and few poetry from renowned poets as well.
In this process, Nepathya is making a formal release of one of their folk numbers prepared on folk tunes they collected from eastern Nepal. The tune known as Hakpare was collected by Nepathya frontman Amrit Gurung from a local traditional folk musician, Dille Damai a resident of Chainpur, Sankhuwasabha.
Gurung had wandered through the eastern hills sometime in 2012. The walk that started from Kavre covered, Sindhuli, Ramechap, Okhaldunga, Khotang, Bhojpur Sankhuwasaha, Terathum and ended in Dhankuta. Encounter with Dille Damai was destined in Chainpur.
“The main objective of the trip was to follow the trail my respected musicians Ramesh and Majul had done in 1969. It was a great experience to find few things unchanged and many new things that was mentioned in their travelogue. “Shared Nepathya frontman Amrit Gurung. “It was a pleasant coincident to meet Dille Damai dai and other musicians during the trip. These traditional folk musicians are our heritage and preserve our rich folk culture. “He added.
Amrit’s main source of inspiration and creation is based on Nepal’s folk-culture. This is evident and can be experienced in the songs he creates and sings. “I do not have formal education in music. For me, my masters are all those known and unknown folk musician I have heard as I grew up and as I wandered through the country.” Says Amrit. “Dille Damai dai is one such Guru – masters I recognize and I dedicate this song to him.”
Folk songs are not only pleasant sounds, but it is also a medium to understand the society. “With modern influence penetrating the villages, folk culture is at the verge of extinction.” Says Amrit. “But I am fortunate to still witness them in raw format, when I travel to some remote untouched settlements.”
The ongoing album project of Nepathya follows the vintage one take recording format. This format was in use before the introduction of multi-track recording technology. As all the musicians come together and record in a single room, the outcome is believed to have more life and rawness in it. The recording was done in Nepathya’s own rehearsal room situated in Kalikasthan, where they meet 4 days a week to stay fit and toned.
“All the songs in the new album including ‘Koshi ko Pani’ in Hakpare tune was recorded in one take format.” Says Kiran Krishna Shrestha of nepa~laya, the promoters of Nepathya.
The video footage of the song is from Nepathya’s live concert in Dubai last year.
Nepathya has been performing this song during their live shows and it has already been well received even before its formal launch.
